How do patients usually react when you inform them about Fenomatch?
Fenomatch in discussion with Marian Cisterna, Founder of Grupo de Apoyo Hello!
We discuss this and other answers that are sought by patients who enquire about the work of Fenomatch through the Spanish fertility patient platform, Grupo de Apoyo Hello!
Marian Cisterna is the Founder of the Spanish fertility online community where patients can interact with each other and gain access to information, support and advice from fertility professionals. The platform has grown into one of the most authoritative patient led resource in Spain and is respected and recognised for its honest and independent perspective.
Q.
Marian, as a communication specialist with IVF patients and specialists, do you think
that innovative technologies are viewed with scepticism or do they reassure patients once they see how effective they are?
A.
I think that in many cases, it is gap in, or lack of information which overwhelms patients. Also, the lack of substantiated data regarding success rates related to those innovations. In the case of Fenomatch, patient feedback suggests that the product has generated a good deal of trust amongst the fertility community. It is this trust which makes them popular with patients.
Q.
How do patients usually react when you inform them about Fenomatch?
A.
For those who are not aware of Fenomatch there is an instant interest – the possibility of having a donor who shares facial characteristics with the patient is key. They want to know how it works, how effective it is and could it really help them to have a baby which shares a similar resemblance. This matters to a lot to most patients who go down the donor route and Fenomatch offers them reassurance and confidence.
Q.
Why do you think clinics should have Fenomatch?
A.
Because it is a plus for patients. There are many patients who ask us if we know which clinics work with Fenomatch. It gives them security and confidence when taking the leap into gamete donation. An association with Fenomatch will enhance the profile of any clinic and demonstrate their commitment to helping patients feel more comfortable if they choose to go down the donor treatment route.
Q.
Does having confidence in the choice of a donor affect the general psychological state of a patient during treatment? What do patients say about it?
A.
Genetic grief is something we talk a lot about in Grupo de apoyo Hello!: you have to
overcome it correctly and if necessary, ask for psychological help. Once patients have made that step, the help that Fenomatch is able to offer is invaluable; it lightens the emotional burden substantially. There is no doubt about this.
Q.
Should Centers continually evolve donor selection methods or is it better to be consistent and use the same method?
A.
Can I answer both? Evolution and coherence; there is no better combination! .
Q.
It is recognised that the role that AI plays in improving quality in reproductive medicine is increasing – why do some clinics find it so difficult to implement it?
A.
I think in part it is due to ignorance. I invite you to ask the patients we speak to on a daily basis. For them, nothing is too much – they will grab (quite rightly) any help that can addressing have a positive impact on their emotional health. The idea of using AI sounds cold but in reality it is the answer to prayers of many patients – it offers a level of confidence which appears to growing with the technology.
Q.
What do you think are the three main advantages of anyone using Fenomatch?
A.
Firstly, it gives security. Secondly, it helps emotionally and finally, it discards the fear of “human error.”
Thank you Marian for sharing your thoughts!
